Nisan

Bikkurim is the commandment to bring the first fruits of the land to the Temple. Each farmer marks the first fruits to ripen in his field, and when they are ready, he brings them to the Temple in Jerusalem. The bringing of the first fruits is accompanied by a special ceremony: the farmer places the basket of fruits before the altar and recites the declaration of gratitude, recalling the history of Israel from Jacob to the giving of the land. This mitzvah expresses gratitude for the blessing of the land. The first of the harvest is not eaten at home but brought to the Temple, and the farmer acknowledges that the land and its blessing are a gift from God.
